253 yards rushing (school record)and a red shirt….could we have just seen our new run game future??? Evans played a sick game lets hope he can keep it up…go hokies

Jenness can attest to this…I’ve been touting Evans all season. A much better player than Kenny Lewis (Frank, who cares if his daddy played for you in the 80s, he stinks). If Steinspring can get his head out of his ass, he’d learn how to feature the run better. With Tyrod, we have two great runners in the back field. How are we not exploiting this more often?

    Let’s not also forget that:
    - the O-Line was amazing last night
    - Greg Boone is a bad, bad man who really wants to punish the defense from every position (He and Evans combined for some vicious hits last night)
    - There is a possibility that Frank Beamer gets way too much credit for VT football’s success. I really think that Bud Foster is 75% responsible for any accolades we get (Frank gets special teams credit, so about 25%, we have no offense and the defense is all Bud)
    - On that note, the best path forward for VT football would be for Bud to take over once Beamer retires (soon I hope) and we use the extra salary to hire a qualified offensive coordinator (and Steinspring can bag groceries at Walmart)
    - Here’s a fact that will piss everybody off (except Swain): Frank Beamer is not a good enough coach to win a National Title. It took one of the best college plays of all time just to get us there and we still couldn’t win. The sooner we come to grips with this and move on, the sooner we will win the big one…

Typo: best college players, not plays

it doesn’t take a braniac sports prognosticator to vouch for the running back with better yards-per-carry.

I agree with butt, however, that foster has much more to do with tour success than not. Beamer does leave something to be desired– not so much in the coaching arena, but the recruiting arena. Sure, we’ve had some phenomenal athletes come through, (D hall, vick, royal), but we really simply do not have the recruting pull to get the top notch guys. It would probably help if we had someone to go to these recruits and their families without making everyone lose their lunch at his scar. We ARE well coached. We do a GREAT job with the talent we have. But time and time again (national title game, both recent sugar bowls), we are dominated by top teams because they have players that can change a game based on their athletic ability. Granted, we had one on our side in the national title game, but we were once again pushed around by deep passes because of the combination of FSU atheltic receivers and the lack of speed and ability in our secondary.

However, I disagree that it took “one of the best plays” in college hsitory to get us there (I assume yo uare talking about the vick run against WVU). Almost every national title team has a close game somewhere down the line and I guarantee you if you go back through every national title winner (except nebraska 95) you could pin point ONE play that if it had a different outcome, they wouldn’t have won the national title.

EDIT: Just read your typo comment, JEff. I redact the last paragraph.

I’m assuming that “Lee Corso” is Swain since he knows about the successes of the ‘95 Nebraska Team (aka the best, most dominant college team in modern football)

Notice how all of Beamer’s good recruits are from the state of Va. We have to recruit out of state if we want to win it big (Kevin Jones is the notable exception, but he’s really the only one)
